Suspected Alcohol Thief Nabbed by Distinctive Clothing

Thursday evening about 5:17 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the Safeway store on Neal Street regarding theft of some alcohol.  Grass Valley Police Sgt. Steve Johnson says a shopper at the store had witnessed a young male conceal a bottle of whiskey under his shirt and then leave without paying, and the shopper had notified a store employee.

The officer then patrolled the area looking for the suspect and  spotted a person with the distinctive clothing in the Kidder Cemetery.

18 year old Dakota Smith was taken into custody and officers did locate the bottle of whiskey in his belongings .  Smith was booked into jail on the theft and being a minor in possession of alcohol.  The other   males in the cemetery were also found to be juveniles and cited for various alcohol violations.  Sgt Johnson says this is the second time in the past two weeks that Smith has been arrested for stealing alcohol from local stores.
