The South Yuba River Citizens League’s annual ‘Yuba River Cleanup’ event isn’t until next month, but they are trying to get participants now. They had about 850 volunteers last year up and down the Yuba and Bear River watersheds, picking up garbage and removing various other trash and debris. SYRCL’s Community Engagement Manager Jenn Tamo says in addition to the annual clean up, river ambassadors are out there trying to educate river-users all year long…
Nevada County Supervisor Hank Weston has been involved in the river cleanups, which is now in its twentieth year. He says not only is the cleanup event healthy for the Yuba, but he encourages you to have fun by making a kind of contest out of it…
Last year, volunteers removed over ten-thousand pounds of garbage in one day. The event is Saturday September 16, and you can sign up as an individual or as a team at yuba-river dot-org. There’s a post-cleanup party afterwards at Pioneer Park in Nevada City with live music and entertainment.
