We’ve all heard it. Our kids are all gaining weight like sponges at a water park. Get them away from the computer, the video games, the TV, get them outside to play and get some exercise!
I remember riding my bike all day as a kid. My buddy & I would takeoff and ride all over our end of town. Other days it was baseball at the park or swimming all day at the lake. To balance all that sunshine and fresh air with indoor fun we would play board games. One summer a friend and I, through the luck of the game, managed to play one game of Monopoly for 2 months. The properties were perfectly divided, the dice rolled pretty evenly. Okay, we did bend a rule by creating savings accounts at “the bank” but we played that same game almost all summer long.
And then I get to work to day and see the dangers of the outdoors portion of my youths summers. Reading this made me long for Mr. Moneybags, and arguments over who was gonna be the Tophat!
‘A Japanese schoolgirl is in intensive care after being speared in the head by a javelin while taking part in track and field training. The javelin became lodged in the 15-year-old’s head after being thrown by a student on the Fukuyama Heisei University campus. She’ll be in intensive care for about two week but the injury is not thought to be life-threatening.”
If she had been indoors playing Monopoly . . . . . . . . .
