Testimony Underway in Nevada County Murder Trial

A jury has been seated, and testimony is underway in a Nevada County murder trial. Scott Hollingshead and Christopher Nix, who are brothers, are being tried together in the beating and shooting death of Brian Spaulding in April of 2014. Jury selection concluded this morning (Thursday), followed immediately by opening statements from the two sides. The first witness testimony began in the afternoon. Trials do not take place on Fridays and Mondays, so testimony will resume on Tuesday. Newell says he’s not sure how long the trial will take…

Both Hollingshead and Nix are charged with one count of murder, plus special allegations of using a firearm and using a firearm during the commission of a crime. Both face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
