A driver reading a text message on her cell phone crashed into a tree. CHP Public Information Officer Marc Morrison says the accident happened Saturday morning on Highway 20 near Casci Ranch Road, north of Nevada City. Officer Morrison says the 17 year old girl lost control of her 2005 Chrysler, when she tried to read a text message she had just received.
“she stated her speed was about 55 miles per hour into a left hand curve and by her own admission she diverted her attention from her driving by looking down to read a text message on her cellular phone that she had just received. In so doing she allowed her vehicle to drift onto the shoulder and it went completely off the road struck a tree.”
The driver was taken to the hospital to be checked for injures. The accident remains under investigation. Officer Morrison says being distracted by a cell phone could have resulted in serious injures.
