WOW! What a week. I spent my vacation working my buns off with my brother Rick. We spent the time getting my Mom moved from Arizona to California. She’s been living on her own for 4 years now and it’s been getting tougher and tougher. This move puts her close to family. She’s also not alone all day, every day, unless he wants to be alone. Everything went about as well as could be expected.
The only incident occurred on the day we started to load the truck. First box up the loading ramp, my head discovered that we parked too close to the garage. My head collided with the garage door….the box I was carrying fell to the deck of the truck bed….I wobbled around the loading ramp, stunned. Luckily there wasn’t any blood, just a big old headache and a mark on my head which faded away in a week.
The drive was uneventful. Well other than having a couple diehard Denver Bronco fans trapped in a rental truck searching for a station broadcasting the Bronco/Charger game. As luck would have it, just as kick off time arrived, we were able to tune in the game. Not all luck is good luck because…this station was part of the Charger network. But when life gives you lemons….we spent the first half of the game (until the station faded into the distance) picking on the play-by-play guys as they tried to make the best of a really bad Charger situation. I almost felt bad for them, but snapped out of it.
800 road miles later we got Mom’s stuff safe and sound to California. Got it all unloaded and arranged in her new apartment. She is thrilled with the way her new digs look. Life is good. It took 7 days to get everything arranged and hung, but it was worth every second.
Good news, I still had a couple days of vacation coming! I loafed and relaxed. I helped Mom get her computer up and running. I taught her how to use her new TV. We had a few family meals together. Good times were had by all.
Then Sunday night. I think most people would agree that most Sunday nights can be a little depressing. You are staring the next work week in the teeth. Knowing that all the stuff you left on your desk Friday will still be sitting there waiting for you. We all agree that the Sunday evening at the far end of a vacation magnifies those feelings.
UNLESS. Unless you are luck enough to love your job. I really feel blessed that I get to do the job I feel I was meant to do. UNLESS. Unless your football team is playing for a shot at the Superbowl. I don’t hate much in this world. Intolerance. Ignorance. The Patriots.
All Together Now : :”Let’s Go Broncos!” (clap – clap – clapclapclap) . . . . . . . . . .
