Growing up with a name like “Bear” I keep my eye peeled for things related to Bear. Of course my eye was drawn to the story I am about to relate because the headline was “Bear Pulls Camper From Outhouse”. At the same time, the age old question regarding bear hygiene came to mind.
It seems our intrepid camper decided to heed the call of nature in one of man kinds oldest accommodations. He also decided to keep the door open, I don’t even want to know why. Apparently the bear came out of the woods, noticed the accommodations, the open door and assumed the room was his to use. When he saw the fellow occupying the seat of honor, the bear drug the guy out of the outhouse. The camper survived his encounter, with bear bites to his shoulder, neck and head. The bear – – – – not so much.
I understand the bear’s motivation, but I don’t appreciate his approach. He needed the outhouse for his own purposes. This camper decided the open door policy was the way to go. The bear felt private business is best done in private, open doors indicate a job well done. The camper wasn’t moving fast enough to suit the bear, so the bear moved the process along.
One thing for sure, in the camper’s situation, he was certainly in the right place at the right time. If I ever see a bear bearing down on me……..
