The Best and The Worst

An emotional weekend for so many in our community, including myself.  First off, I was honored to be able to broadcast the 4th of July parade from Downtown Grass Valley, thanks to Tess’ Kitchen Supply.  It is a wonderful event every year and this year was no exception…from the marching bands…to the floats…to the grand marshals…it was a great day, filled with smiles and patriotism.  Then, there was Sunday, when some hoodlum commits, perhaps, the most heinous crime since I moved to Grass Valley back in 1981.  Mary Grace Tassone, a tiny, caring woman, opening up St. Patrick’s Church so other could worship and attend Mass, is viciously attacked and left for dead by some scumbag.  Who the heck could do such a thing?  I sure hope they catch the criminal, who also stole Mary Grace’s vehicle…probably for a drug deal.  Please pray for Mary Grace’s recovery (she is doing better, thank goodness).  She would spend so many of her hours visiting the sick in the hospital, anointing them with water from Lourdes, France, where she would visit often on pilgrimage.  Caring for the sick is in her DNA…she was a lifetime registered nurse at Sierra Nevada and was there when it opened to the public, I believe in the emergency department.   All the best, Mary Grace, on your recovery.  And, here’s hoping our community will recover as well.
