The Nevada County Fair is On!

It’s Opening Day for the 2013 Nevada County Fair and the buzz of excitement is filling the air at the Fairgrounds.

the events kicked off this morning..
The theme of the Fair this year is Under The Big Top so a Circus type atmosphere is present at all venues. The first day of the fair is also Scholar day. Nevada county Superintendent of Schools Holly Hermansen says its a day of student celebration

Hemansen says almost 8000 students have been invites this year.

Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal is in attendance at the opening ceremonies and is looking forward to a great Fair regardless of any controversy that may arise.

In regards to the elephants, Have Trunk Will Travel is all set to provide rides and elephant education.

elephantride2The first elephant riders of the fair was the Berg Family… Marina, Kawa, Rosie,  Little Ally, and their parents climbed the steps and mounted Rosie for a lap around the ring.

Although protesters against the elephant attraction and the alleged abusive treatment of elephants is expected throughout the fair, as the sheriff stated, it is everyone’s hope that those protests will be done respectfully and peacefully.

The Fair runs through Sunday August 11.
