The Superior Court of California, County of Nevada Scholarship Awarded

The Superior Court of California, County of Nevada announced the award of the John H. Darlington Educational Scholarship to Tod Buis. Tod is known to many in the community from South Pine Cafe in Grass Valley. This scholarship is available to students that are planning careers in alcohol and drug abuse counseling.  This $1,000.00 scholarship is available annually through a merit-based application process. Tod says he wanted to find a way to help in the community.

Tod, has lived in Nevada County for more than ten years.  Tod has a B.A. in English from Sacramento State University, and is currently a student at the Breining Institute working towards a Registered Addiction Specialist certification (RAS).  The RAS program requires 2000 hours of internship within an outpatient treatment facility.  Tod has been interning and working as a counselor at Common Goals in Nevada City to fulfill this requirement. In addition to working towards his RAS certification, he has applied to Sacramento State’s Masters in Social Work program.  His hope is to someday work in a hospital or other clinical setting as a medical social worker.  Tod wants to give credit to those that helped him along the way.

The John H. Darlington Scholarship was established in 2007 by the Judges of the Nevada County Superior Court to honor their colleague on the occasion of his retirement. The scholarship is funded with contributions from the Judges of the Nevada County Superior Court through the Judge’s Charitable Fund of the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation.
