Thieves Selling and Shops Buying Locally Stolen Gold

Law enforcement is cracking down on local gold buyers allegedly purchasing stolen gold from area burglaries. Nevada County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Steve Tripp says investigators were told jewelry stolen from homes in the county were being sold to local dealers after the gold was melted down. The Lieutenant says after hearing the information they decided to find out if it was true. Tripp says an undercover officer entered six different businesses to try and sell stolen gold.

Only one of the businesses bought the stolen goods. The Lieutenant says investigators will be working with the District Attorney’s Office to file charges against the business. Lieutenant Tripp said the undercover officer made it very clear to each business that the gold was stolen.
