Thousands Evacuated From Area Fires

Thousands of residents are evacuated from wildfires in Nevada and Yuba Counties that began late last night and overnight. Cal Fire PIO Mary Eldridge says an estimated 8,000 residents, including all of Lake Wildwood, are under a mandatory or advisory evacuation order from the Lobo fire, which has destroyed an estimated 30-40 structures and at least 900 acres. Meanwhile, evacuations have been lifted in the area of the McCourtney Fire, where about 80 acres have been lost, with 10% containment. Eldridge also points out other fire factors…

And Nevada County Consolidated Fire Chief Jim Turner says the sheer number of wildfires can be overwhelming for firefighters…

Meanwhile, the biggest fire is the Cascade Fire in Yuba County, where at least 8,200 acres have gone up in smoke, also with 10% containment. The Nevada County Sierra College campus will also remain closed through the evening.
