Three Things I Learned at Wild and Scenic

Another successful Wild and Scenic Film Festival in Nevada City and Grass Valley over the weekend. I am fortunate to be able to attend as  a member of the press. Therefore, beyond covering the event for news items,  I feel I should also share three things I learned (or reinforced) while attending sessions during the festival.

1. The Colorado River used to run all the way to the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of Mexico). However today it runs short of its final destination as water is held in the United States and diverted for a number of uses in the States. As a result Mexico is affected because of the lack of fresh water.

2. It is possible to over-think each individual’s effect on the environment… and become paralyzed. However, it is important to realize that each person does have an effect on the environment  and can change behavior to lessen their impact while still leading a normal lifestyle.

3. Species adapt…evolution is constant…the forces of nature and science are fascinating… the world is wonderful place.
