Time Capsule Opened in Chicago Park

The Nevada County community of Chicago Park celebrated 125 years of the history of its post office on April 30. As part of the celebration the Nevada County Historical Society uncovered and opened a time capsule that was buried in 1988 signifying the 100th anniversary of establishment of the Post Office Chicago Park. Another specific item of interest was a book of writings from the Garden Club membership in 1988.

A new capsule was filled to commemorate the125 anniversary of the post office and will be opened in 2038. Oliver joked with audience that they would be 40 then, and teased them about being old then. Oliver, dressed in circa 1900 period clothing, said one student had an interesting perspective of what it might be like in 2038.

An employee at the store from the 1960’s was also in attendance and shared what Chicago Park was like during that period.
