Tobacco Sales to Minors Continue Dropping

Tobacco sales to minors in California continue to drop. The latest survey from the State Department of Public Health shows that it’s down to 7-point-6 percent of all sales at retail outlets, compared to 9-percent a year ago. That’s also seven straight years at under 10-percent. When the state first started monitoring illegal sales in 1997, teens were able to buy tobacco products during 21-percent of attempts. But the state says the Healthy People 2020 target is to reduce illegal sales to 5 percent or less.
