At around the time the warning was issued, the National Weather Service said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Smartsville, as well as Lake Wildwood. Areas also facing potential impacts included Penn Valley, Rough and Ready, Grass Valley and Cedar Ridge. Gulserian says, ultimately, though, there’s been no damage reported…
There had also been a tornado warning issued for south central Yuba County, but it was cancelled about half an hour later. Several callers to KNCO said there was heavy rain, and some hail in the Penn Valley area. The tornado warning and severe storm warning was lifted at 4 o’clock.
