Traffic Collision Results in Pedestrian Fatality

By Ashlyn Rhodes

A collision that occurred early Friday morning involving an off-duty Rocklin police officer has resulted in the death of a pedestrian.  At about 1:30 a.m. last Friday, an officer had just finished his shift and was driving in his personal vehicle when he struck a pedestrian in the roadway.  The pedestrian was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.  The Rocklin Police Department asked the CHP to investigate on their behalf in order to avoid bias.  CHP Officer David Martinez says that investigators hope to use security footage from a nearby gas station to find out how the pedestrian came to be in the middle of the road, since there are no crosswalks in the area.
