A group of citizens are taking to the streets today to make a visible statement on the Brunswick Overpass above the Golden Center Freeway. Nevada County Move to Amend is trying to amend the 14th Amendment of the U S Constitution regarding the increase in rights granted to corporations.

Coincidentally today marks the 127th anniversary of 1886 Supreme Court Ruling in the “Santa Clara v. Southern Pacific Railroad case.”

Since then, in case after case, the Supreme Court has expanded the Constitutional “rights” of corporations, leading up to the Citizens United case in 2010.
All day today Nevada County Move to Amend is displaying freeway banners to commemorate the case, and to display a message of change.

The freeway banner campaign is called “127 years is enough.” Members will hold two the banners on the freeway overpass at Brunswick from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
