Two Arrested While Claiming a Prize

Two suspects were arrested on a variety of charges when they thought they were collecting a prize for purchasing a cell phone. Grass Valley Police Sgt Steve Johnson says the sequence of events began on Friday with the report of a stolen truck and ended Saturday with the booking of Kellen Lovell and Kyle Short both of Nevada City.

Grass Valley Police officers responded quickly but missed the suspects by a few minutes. A store clerk provided a good description of the two suspects and told officers that the suspects had purchased a cellphone using the credit card.

The officers waited around the corner and within 10 minutes the two suspects returned to the store to claim their gift card.

Officers also located the stolen truck which had been stashed about one mile east of the Old 5 Mile House on Highway 20.

Both Kellen Lovell and Kyle Short were booked int the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on a a variety of drug possession, drug paraphernalia, theft, burglary, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property charges.
