A Penn Valley woman is is now scheduled for two trials, related to an embezzlement case. Michele Huni was arrested for embezzling money from the Pleasant Valley Elementary School District Parent Club, while president of the club. She had a rejected a plea deal, about a year ago, over concerns about her ability to receive alternative sentencing. About a month later, she failed to appear in court and was arrested in Oregon. District Attorney Cliff Newell says a trial on the failure to appear charges is tentatively scheduled for July 8th, and a separate trial on the embezzlement case has been set for August 16th…

Meanwhile, a new judge told Huni a few weeks ago that a new plea deal could have meant as little as one year in jail, as long as she paid restitution. But she says if Huni is convicted after being tried, there’s the potential of as many as seven years in prison. A deadline had been set. But Huni has since hired a new attorney, with a hearing scheduled for May 20th.
