Two Unfortunate Mishaps in El Dorado County

A family on a outing in El Dorado County reported their six year old son missing late Monday afternoon. KNCO’s Gary Jacobson has the story.

A fatality and an injury occurred in the South Lake Tahoe area Monday morning when a single engine Mooney airplane crashed shortly after take off from the South Lake Tahoe airport at approximately 11:10 AM.  El Dorado Sheriff Lieutenant, Pete Van Arnum says the plane was observed by numerous witnesses as it began to lose altitude after take off.*

The plane crashed into some large pine trees and flipped over.  According to Van Arnum  an off-duty CalStar flight nurse came upon the wreckage.

Karen Lefton was flown by CalStar to Renown hospital in Reno.
Officials were concerned about fuel leaks resulting from the crash.

Assisting agencies were Cal Fire, US Forest Service, South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and California Highway Patrol.  Investigators from FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash.
