Uptick In Local Celebrants With Saturday Halloween

With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, law enforcement expects an increase in trick-or-treaters as well as adult celebrants. Grass Valley Police Lieutenant Steve Johnson says most years have been relatively free of serious accidents or injuries in the local area. He says there are a number of precautions that help, especially making sure you and your children are highly-visible, including the use of flashlights and reflective materials. Johnson also discourages the use of cell phones or smartphones while trick-or-treating. He says children under 12 should always be accompanied by a parent or adult and should also never go inside a stranger’s home, without a proper escort. Meanwhile, the greatest concern for adults, as always, is drinking and driving…

Johnson says drivers should also turn on headlights to make themselves more visibile, even if it’s not dark yet, and go at least 5 miles an hour below the posted speed limit, to allow extra time to react to children who may dart into the street.
