Valuing Our Watersheds Workshop Planned

As the state focuses on water issues from the Bay Delta restoration and twin tunnels to deliver water south,   and now the threat of a serious California-wide drought, Nevada Irrigation District Division 1 Director, Nancy Weber says its time to take stock of our watershed assets, both strengths and challenges.  To that end the Nevada County League of Women Voters is presenting a panel presentation on the Bear and Yuba Watersheds with three local leaders in the Field, Izzy Martin of the Sierra Fund, Caleb Dardick with SYRCL and Rem Scherzinger General Manager of the Nevada Irrigation District.

Weber says The Sierra Fund is also a partner with NID to remove toxic mercury and arsenic from our water supply  in Combie Reservoir.

Weber says they have enough money to get started and hope to have the project included in the Water Bond if it comes on the ballot this Fall.  Valuing our Watersheds, a  panel on our water resources presented by local leaders will be Saturday February 8, 9:30AM-noon, at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main Street in Grass Valley.  Free to all those who will fit in the room (about 75-100).
