A white Cadillac with out-of-state plates and a malfunctioning light caught the attention of a Sheriff’s deputy in Penn Valley Monday morning a little after 2:00AM. And before the deputy could initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle came to a stop in the middle of Penn Valley Drive for no apparent reason. The deputy then contacted the driver to be sure everything was OK.

The deputy noticed a strong smell of marijuana while speaking to the driver. The officer had the driver and passengers step out of the vehicle and while doing so a passenger in the backseat, Steven Bell 46 of North San Juan, admitted he had a small quantity of marijuana. The subject also shared additional information with the deputy.

The deputies then searched the vehicle and located another four pounds of marijuana in the trunk which Bell eventually claimed was his as well.
Steven Bell was taken into custody and booked on marijuana related charges as well as violation of his AB 109 early release supervision terms.
