An 11-hour standoff near Foresthill ended peacefully, without injuries, late Wednesday night, with a local man arrested. Placer County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Troy Sander says it started Wednesday afternoon, in a heavily wooded area, about 8 miles from the town, on Michigan Bluff Road…
Several nearby homes were evacuated. Sander says deputies eventualy deployed two helicopters for backup, from their department, as well as the CHP. And then the suspect, 34-year-old Rance Shepherd, fired several times at the helicopters. SWAT officers were also called in. But Sander says negotiations did not progress as hoped…
Sander says it took tear gas, thrown inside the home, to get Shepherd to surrender. He’s charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. Sander would not say whether Shepherd had a criminal background or other issues. Several family members also lived there, but were not home at the time.
