Wake the World builds Self esteem for Foster Youth

One of the unfortunate things about children placed in foster care is that they can loose their self esteem and a focus for what they want to be in the future. Greg Hodgin has created a program for those foster kids that lets them have some fun water-sports provided by Boat owners who volunteer to take the kids out on the water. and it’s all happening today at Bullard’s Bar.

Wake the World is a Non-profit organization and got started in 2008 with a small group of foster kids in North Carolina. In 2013, Wake the World became the largest all volunteer organization of it’s kind, with over 300 volunteered boats signed on for the program across the country..
Today at Bullard’s Bar they have 9 boat owners participating . Hodgin says it’s heartwarming to see how the attention helps build the foster kids self esteem.

The next Wake the World event in our area will be August 3rd at Rollins Lake. Hodgin says they strive to have a network of boat volunteers and sponsors to help support each event. (the Rollins Lake event organizer is Colleen Busch and she can be reached at (909) 287-6248.) They also provide insurance and liability waivers for every Wake the World event.
