The man arrested for going on a rampage in the town of Washington in September has been ordered to stand trial. That follows a preliminary hearing in a Nevada County courtroom for 28-year-old Jeffrey Caldwell, to see if there’s enough evidence to try him. Newell says Caldwell soon after crashed the ATV and ran into the woods, where he went missing for about a week, before he was found and arrested by a CHP officer. Newell says the assault with a firearm charge is a “first strike” offense. He says conviction of a “strike” charge results in much less credit for time served in prison. Caldwell is scheduled to be arraigned on December 16th, at which time a trial date may also be set.
