A year ago, the state approved mandated conservation standards, with water districts facing possible penalties. The goal was to save 25-percent statewide, compared to 2013. And from June of last year to May of this year, the savings was 24 and a half percent. The Nevada Irrigation District saved about 30-percent, just short of their last mandate of 33-percent. Starting in June, the mandates were lifted, although districts still have to set acceptable targets. NID’s target is now zero, thanks to a wet winter. But Operations Manager Chip Close says there was still a 20-percent savings last month…
That’s also meant lower water bills for customers, and a significant loss in revenue for NID. But Close says rates will not be going up…
And although outdoor watering is no longer restricted, Close says other restrictions are now permanent, under state law, and customers can still face fines. For more information, you can go to NID’s website or the state’s website.
