A large majority of the state’s water providers say they’ll have adequate supplies over the next three years, even if drought conditions persist. Only 69 of California’s 411 water districts, or 85-percent, have told the State Water Resources Control Board that they should not be required to follow mandated conservation targets, which were in place statewide last year. This year, water entities were allowed to self-certify conservation standards, instead of having to adhere to one statewide standard. NID is among districts with a zero mandated standard. But Close points out that doesn’t mean customers have stopped saving water…
But the Water Resources Control Board says it could still impose broad restrictions if many water districts lose ground and fail to conserve.
