Weekend Driving Numbers Good for Nevada County

Nevada County did relatively well driving-wise over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend. According to CHP Officer Greg Tassone there were no significant collisions or fatalities. There were some property related incidents and fender-benders but overall drivers did a good job refraining from drinking and driving. Tassone says the CHP made only three arrests during the Maximum Enforcement period; two for DUI and one for outstanding warrants. As part of the Maximum Enforcement, the CHP did have a DUI Checkpoint in Grass Valley on Saturday.

One DUI arrest occurred during the extra patrol period, and one arrest occurred earlier in the day, but at the actual checkpoint itself the CHP were pleasantly surprised.

Tassone credits drivers for making positive choices over the weekend. In Placer county, there were 32 arrests over the weekend which was up 10 from last year. Tassone says throughout the state the numbers were not so great. Fatality accidents were higher for the second year in a row and there were between 1100 and 1200 DUI arrests.
