The Nevada City City Council met last night with a fairly light agenda. Following several proclamations, not the least of which was recognizing the Marching Presidents for celebrating their 30 year anniversary this year. Then came a very special moment. Mayor Strawser told a story about the Nevada County firefighters that were called to duty on the Detwiler Fire last month. Duane grew up in Mariposa and his mother and many high school friends still live there. After sharing some of the statistics an emotional Strawser told those assembled about an Associated Press photographer, Josh Edelson, who happened to be shooting photos of the situation and happened to take several of a pretty exhausted Chief Sam Goodspeed…
Edelson posted the photo on social media and it went viral even appearing on the front page of the Los Angeles Times…
Pascale Fusshoeller from YubaNet was able to obtain the photographers permission to copy the photo of Sam and the Mayor was honored to present it to the Chief
The Chief and his firefighters were just doing their jobs, Goodspeed says this is a momento worth having…
That presentation, last night at City Hall.
