I just started on the Juice… no- not performance enhancing steroids or Human Growth Hormone… I’m talking fruits and veggies.
Circumstances are such that my family has come to possess a Jack LaLanne Power Juicer…. I now have the power to turn anything into a liquid state.
However, the learning curve on what to juice and when to juice has been rather steep for me. At times I take things too literally when following directions.
A friend of mine said- “Now that you have the Juicer you should juice your breakfast and lunch.” … I discovered that bacon, eggs, and toast do not make a tasty juice. Captain Crunch, too, does not make a good juice… or oatmeal. Lunch – was no better- Chicken Nuggets- not so juicy.
When I told my friend… he pointed out that cooked foods are not supposed to be juiced… So, I juiced a whole chicken…. it was more “liquidy”… but it still tasted bad…and it clogged the juicer… and I’m not so sure that it was really ok to consume… I think there is a reason we don’t see “chicken juice” in the cooler at the market.
Feeling frustrated I threw an orange in… better….. but I should have peeled it first. Apples went through.. and came out pretty good… a carrot worked- day glow orange, but sweet…Beets turned everything purple… and they do not taste like purple snow cones- beets actually taste kinda like dirt.
I was told to try Kale and other green vegetables… well… it looked horrible.. and really was not palatable to me… a cucumber was better… Somebody turned me on to dried wheat-grass… that turned things into an interesting, gloopy texture and a muddy green.
So I started to get creative.. and I began to blend different combinations of fruits and veggies…and slowly I began to come up with formulas that worked for me…
A pleasant discovery- ginger makes everything taste better… and
I accidentally found that adding vodka to the blend also helped things taste better… and I began to feel warm and fuzzy when I guzzled my concoction.
The best thing I learned- my favorite thing to juice is… CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM! Delicious every time!
