WIC Program Features in National Public Health Week

This is National Public Health Week and Nevada County Public Health Department is on a quest to be a part of the Healthiest Nation in One Generation, and Senior Nutritionist and WIC Program Coordinator Debra Wilson says that starts by securing a healthy future for the youngest citizens.

Wilson says the food on a young persons plate can change their health for life.

Data from the Centers for disease control and Prevention shows most US youth don’t eat enough fruits, vegetables, or whole grains, with many exceeding the recommended maximum daily intake of sodium and sugar. Wilson says she can’t stress enough how important it is to breastfeed your baby.

More information and help with nutrition and breastfeeding is available throught the county’s WIC or Women Infants Children program.
