Wildfire Fuels Reduction Project Begins

Whether it’s a wet winter or not, efforts continue toward minimizing the wildfire danger in Nevada County. The Fire Safe Council, Nevada City, and Sierra Streams Institute, have partnered to implement a FEMA grant-funded fuels reduction project that began on Monday. Drummond says less serious fires also reduce toxic discharges into Deer Creek. And due to the dangerous nature of activities of the project, including the felling of hazardous trees, the Tribute Trail will be closed from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday and until it’s completed, or around mid-March. It’ll still be open on weekends and holidays.
