NID Seeks Public Support For Scotts Flat Spillway Replacement
NID Seeks Public Support For Scotts Flat Spillway Replacement

NID is seeking public support to help secure funding for the $60 million Scotts Flat Spillway replacement, a project mandated to prevent structural failure and mitigate future water rate hikes.
Public support for efforts to reduce NID costs for replacing the Scotts Flat Spillway are now being sought. Assistant General Manager Greg Jones says the district intends to complete the 60-million-dollar project in the next couple of years. It was mandated by the state and federal government, after the Oroville Dam spillway nearly collapsed about a decade ago. Jones says they’re not asking for donations but for customers to sign a letter of support that’s on the NID website…
Jones says the district anticipates the state to open up the
application process before the end of the year…
Starting in 2027, NID water rates for treated customers are
going up nine-percent. That’s lower than the original plan of
12-and-a-half-percent, because the timeline for budgeting the spillway project
was pushed back. But the following four
years could still feature the maximum increase, depending on the district’s
ability to find external funding help. Officials say the spillway, which was originally
built in 1949 and later modified and raised in 1964, has serious structural
problems made worse by past flood events.
