Notable Local Election Results

Former Councilmember Bob Branstrom eyes a Grass Valley City Council return as early leads emerge in Nevada County election results. Meanwhile, Measure M sits just shy of the two-thirds support needed for passage.

So far, it looks like a former Councilmember is returning to the Grass Valley City Council, after being unseated two years ago. Bob Branstrom was just 15 votes behind leading votegetter Scott Beesley, after the last update was released from the Nevada County Elections Office Tuesday night. There are two open seats being vacated by Hilary Hodge and Haven Caravelli. That means, at this point, that Branstrom and Beesely would replace them. Ed Peevey was a distant third and over 400 votes behind. Meanwhile, current Nevada County Planning Commissioner Terry McAteer has a commanding lead, over Jesse White, to replace Ricki Heck in Division One, on the NID Board of Directors. Heck was not seeking a new term and endorsed McAteer. For Division Two, incumbent Chris Bierwagen leads James Smith, 52 to 47-percent. Looking at the two open seats on the Nevada Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees: incumbent Olivia Pritchett leads Nina Kopp, 60 to 39-percent. And Tim Girioux leads Keith Allen 59 to 40-percent to replace Ken Johnson, who did not seek another term. And looking at local ballot measures affecting Western Nevada County, Measure Q has 61-percent support for updating Nevada City’s short-term rental regulations. And the Pleasant Ridge School District bond measure, Measure M, has 66-percent support, just under the two-thirds approval that’s needed. It’s unknown, at this time, how many ballots still need to be counted, countywide. And the next vote update isn’t until Friday.
