KNCO Insight spotlights the return of the Barbara Schmidt Millar Women’s Triathlon & 5K on August 30, 2026, at Cascade Shores and Scotts Flat Lake in Nevada City. Host Tom Fitzsimmons talks with co-founder Cathy Anderson-Meyers, Dr. Jean Creasey and Liz Dreher about the Nevada County event’s history, beginner-friendly sprint triathlon, relay teams, 5K run/walk and free training opportunities.

They also discuss women’s fitness, mental health, open-water swimming, community encouragement and Barbara Schmidt Millar’s breast cancer legacy. Proceeds support breast cancer prevention, screening, diagnostic testing and treatment programs at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, along with scholarships for Nevada Union graduates pursuing healthcare careers. Women of all experience levels are encouraged to participate, volunteer or cheer on the athletes.
