You don’t have to be smarter than a sixth grader to know that there have been recent accidents and deaths on Highway 49 in the south County, but one 11 year-old Nevada City girl is trying to do something about it. Jolie Allen is making it her sixth grade science project at the Nevada City School of the Arts…
She’s organizing a petition drive to get a center median built, and her whole family is helping out. Her brother Silas has made a website, fix-49 dot-org (www.fix49.org), and parents Scott and Stephanie are helping get the word out, and geting her in touch with the right people. Dad Scott Allen says he’s been asking why there isn’t a center median in the roadway already…
Allen needs 10-thousand signatures on her petition, and as of last week, only has 830. She and her parents have been talking to people, and grocery stores are a good place to do that…
