Supervisors Support California Clean Air Day

Nevada County has officially pledged support for California Clean Air Day, highlighting new initiatives like e-bike programs and expanded zero-emission transit to combat rising local pollution concerns.
Wednesday, October 7th, is also California Clean Air Day, established just nine years ago. And at their meeting in Truckee yesterday (Tues.), Nevada County Supervisors approved their annual resolution of support. Staff says as a state, California still has some of the worst pollution in the United States. Senior Management Analyst, Mandy Stewart, told the Board that unhealthy and hazardous air quality has also become an increasing concern for county residents. Stewart also mentioned some ongoing county initiatives. That included a county employee e-bike program funded through the local air quality management district. Also, an expansion of the zero-emission transit fleet and the South Yuba River Shuttle pilot program that was launched this summer. The goal of the program was to get more vehicles off the road, lower peak traffic near the river, and reduce overall emissions. The resolution was introduced again by County Supervisor Hardy Bullock.
